Body Positive Clothing Swap and Panel Discussion In-Person
Refresh your wardrobe and connect with like-minded individuals at the Newark Public Library!
Join us for a free body-positive event at the Newark Public Library featuring a clothing swap, panel discussion, networking, and refreshments! This event is all about celebrating body positivity, sustainable fashion, and self-love in a welcoming community environment.
Event Schedule:
4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Arrival & Networking
Mingle with fellow attendees, enjoy light refreshments, and connect with like-minded individuals. This is a perfect time to make new friends and build your body-positive network while enjoying a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere.
5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Panel Discussion
Our panel of influential speakers will dive into discussions on body positivity, fashion, and self-love. Learn from their personal experiences and insights into the world of fashion, activism, and creating inclusive spaces.
6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: Q&A Session
This is your chance to ask our panelists questions and engage in meaningful conversations about the challenges and triumphs of body positivity and sustainable fashion.
6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.: Plus Size Clothing Swap
Join us for a fun, community-centered clothing swap where you can trade your gently used clothing and accessories. It’s a fantastic opportunity to refresh your wardrobe sustainably while supporting fellow attendees. Bring a minimum of 10 clean, gently used plus-size clothing items to participate in the swap. No pushing or fighting—just a relaxed and friendly environment where everyone can find something they love!
Rules for the Swap:
- Each guest must bring a minimum of 10 gently used clothing items to participate.
- Clothing should be clean and in good condition.
- No fighting or pushing—this is a positive, welcoming space.
- Respect each other’s choices and take what you need with gratitude.
Refreshments and light snacks will be available throughout the event.
Donnelle Jageman (@donnellejag): Co-founder of Philly FatCon and creator of The Philly Plus Swap, Donnelle brings her passion for sustainability and community building through events focused on body positivity and second-hand fashion.
Amar Session (@_.bodacious): A model and activist who has walked the runway for SavagexFenty NYFW, Amar uses their platform to challenge societal norms about body image, promoting authenticity and self-love.
Megan Ixim (@heymsgigggles): A queer, mixed-Latina fat activist from JC/NYC, Megan is a social media director and content creator focused on body and sex positivity, women's empowerment, and sustainable fashion.
Justine Manzano (@justine_manzano): Author of the YA fantasy series Keys & Guardians and romantic comedy Never Say Never, Justine advocates for representation of plus-sized characters in her writing and promotes body positivity through her work.
Parking will be available at Essex County Parking Deck (formerly the Bears/ Eagle Stadium Parking Garage) which is located at 20-54 Bridge Street.
